Julian’s Birthday and Poland – July 23, 2012 – By Lancelot

Happy birthday Julian!  We start the birthday celebration by going into Warsaw for a special stop at Mc Donald’s to get Julian’s special Birthday McMuffin.

After Julian finishes his McMuffin we focus on Warsaw.   In the heart of Warsaw, we find a parking space in front of the Warsaw Theater.  We walked to the Royal Castle Square to find that the Polish people rebuilt their home in amazing style.  They rebuilt all of the old town, brick by brick, restoring it with great care and perfection.

Then we walked to a restaurant called Podwale for Julian’s birthday lunch.   At the restaurant there is a big picture of a smiling cartoon man.  But when we walk in, the waitresses are not smiling.  They don’t even say “hello.”   In fact, they are all frowning, and mean to boot.   I took a napkin from our table and put it on my lap and the waitress picked it up and put it back on the table.  I thought that was an odd welcome.  Since we were hungry we ordered food … salad, weiner schnitzel, and porkribs .   The food arrived and it looks good and tastes even better.  The food was worth the hostile service.

After lunch we go to the Warsaw Rises Memorial and to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

After a long day of sight-seeing we said good-bye to Poland and hit the road for Kaunas, Lithuania.
