We spent June 10th driving from Scilly back to inland Italy. Our next destination is Venice.
We finally arrived in Venice on June 11th. It took us longer to get to Venice than expected, but it was worth the wait. We parked our car on the mainland and made our way to the ticket booth for the Grand Canal. We bought tickets for the forty minute scenic ride to St. Marks square. Of course we had to get pictures of every single waterfront house on the Grand Canal!
When we reached St. Marks square, the ” Drawing room of Europe”, we soaked in the magical lampposts, towers, cafes, and bands.
It didn’t take long to meet a group of pigeons in St. Mark’s square which either really liked popcorn or tourists. Anyway we had an amazing time coaxing the pigeons onto our arms, and then trying to persuade them to fly away!
Once the pigeons found a new group of tourists with more popcorn we escaped to explore the glass, stationary, and other shops along the canal.
We even found the same restaurant that Mom and Dad visited during their honeymoon:) After dinner we walked back to St. Mark’s square.
It was almost midnight, so dancing masked couples replaced the pigeons. Classical music filled the air as street quartets played outside the local cafes. We got gelato and sat admiring the whole picture!
It was so amazing that we lost track of time, and literally had to run back to the boat. Fortunately the boats ran all night, but if there was no boat back to the shore, I want to be stranded in St. Mark’s Square!
Natalia, your Venice blog made my day! I love Venice and I’m so envious of this extraordinary experience you’re having with your dad and brothers! It’s totally awesome! The pictures are incredible and I love love love seeing and reading about this adventure!
